Chinatown is lively with its shops and restaurants. Union Square is great for department store shopping and downtown drinking and dining. North Beach has some great European restaurants. It's still a Bohemian trendy hang-out with book stores, coffee shops and live music venues. The famous cable cars (it's compulsory to take a ride!) can get you easily around the city.
Down at Fisherman's Wharf, you can meet sea lions, eat delicious local seafood and take the ferry to the famous Alcatraz Island, home of the world's most notorious prison. Golden Gate Bridge must be visited and an afternoon in Golden Gate Park is a delight. Sonoma and Napa wine valleys are slightly north, with Carmel and Monterey 2 hours south down beautiful Highway 1.

Santa Monica is LA's oldest and largest holiday beach resort with a wooden pier, funfair and great shopping. Long Beach has a 9km-long white sand beach. Pine Avenue, the centre is full of shops, cafes and places to eat while Shoreline Village on the waterfront is lovely for its restaurants and boutiques. Newport is home to luxury mansions (OC ON CHANNEL4) and 5km-long beach where surfing is popular.
For you fans trying to get a glimpse of the stars or to walk the walk of fame head inland to Hollywood where your find the Hollywood Studio Museum.
Paramount Studios is the last major studio to be based here, while further north in Burbank, you can enjoy the rides and tour at Universal Studios. Shopping, bars and nightlife go to Sunset Strip and Melrose Avenue. West and you'll hit the exclusive city of Beverly Hills. Here you can find designer boutiques on Rodeo Drive (DO IT PRETTY WOMAN STYLE) and take a tour of the stars' homes. Anaheim is home to California Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm.
