Hudson Hotel New York
Do you want to experience living in those hip music videos? Book a room at the Hudson Hotel and understand what Cheap Chic is all about.
Check out the ultimate lifestyle hotel for the twenty-first century. Hudson Hotel, a member of the Morgans Hotel Group, is a brilliant reflection of the boldness and diversity of the city of New York—perfect fusion of urbane rush, dramatic daredevil design, and cost-effectiveness in these challenging times.

Known for his bold and evocative touches, legendary French designer Philippe Starck once again has created a masterpiece in this one-thousand-room hotel. The trademark of the Morgans Hotel Group-Philippe Starck partnership is very evident the moment one enters the hotel. You will find an escalator trapped in chartreuse glass, a ceiling fresco by world-famous painter Francesco Clemente and a park right in the elevated lobby! With 45-foot trees, walls filled with creeping ivy, 500 gallon watering cans and 30 foot vases, and chaise lounges in the middle of the garden pathways, the Private Park is Hudson Hotel’s tribute to the Central Park just blocks away from the hotel. If you have not been enthraled by the lobby, check out the bar and be awed by the lit floor, Dali chairs, and Louis XVI chairs upholstered in Barbarella silver.
You would think that with all those drama, the design is of theatrical influences. But the real inspiration is actually Harvard Square, with its brick, ivy and enormous crystal chandelier. Of course, those royal purple club chairs and fireplaces in the library are more Oxford circa 1930 and instead of lava lamps by the bed, light boxes are painted by Clemente.
The African-wood walls of the rooms are panelled and seasoned with flowing white curtains, stainless steel tables and Starck’s ingenious version of the classic U.S. Naval Chair. Like most of Starck’s designs for Morgans Hotels, Hudson is also steamship-inspired. But the rooms in the hotels are nowhere near the designs of ordinary sea vessels. Well, if you think staterooms are ordinary then perhaps the Hudson Hotel rooms are ordinary. Starck’s personal favourite, Aqua Bathhouse amenities are also present in all the rooms. Its king- and queen-size beds sport white Egyptian cotton sheets with more than three-hundred thread count, and plush down comforters and pillows. If you left your laptops or mobile phones home, they can also be requested from the hotel.
If you decide not to stay inside your room all day, you might be interested in hanging out at the Library. While its name is suggestive of an extensive collection of books, the Library also features an antique billiards table, classic English leather sofas and wing chairs as well as area rugs thrown alongside desks fitted with leading-edge laptop computers.
For food and beverage, the Sky Terrace and the Hudson Cafeteria are your best bets. The Sky Terrace on the fifteenth floor is the ideal spot for soaking up the sun and enjoying a quiet drink and light fare while taking in the breathtaking views of the city and the Hudson River.
The Hudson Cafeteria presents a different kind of dining experience set in a luxury hotel with its setting reminiscent of an Ivy League dining hall, an eat-in kitchen, and 1940s automat.
Because of its strategic location and luxurious atmosphere, the Hudson hotel is the ultimate holiday stop in the Big Apple. Posh and stylish but very affordable, indeed a hotel that truly epitomizes cheap chic!
